within the context of tattooing as a profession, I'm using the phrase "art for arts' sake" to contrast art created at the request of others in exchange for money or some other currency or with the intention to make money. Contrary to the philosophy that accompanied the inception of the phrase, this body of work does serve a purpose. Its performed to inspire appreciating the intersection of craftsmanship, aesthetics and concept, for the sake of the art itself as oppose to monetary gain or mass appeal. If either occurs, it is a consequence and not an intention. No prompts given by clients inform any of this work.

 

At some point I do see myself transitioning to a phase of my career where I only tattoo works from this collection, completely unprompted work, and at that point money would be added to said appreciated intersection, because i'm still very much against unnecessarily  continuing to struggle as an artist  and i most definitely desire to make a living off my art lol.  But for now, these will be done free of charge.
